DIRK: The end!

(skeptical reaction from others, overlapping)

—: I don't like your stories very much . . .

—: (under) Not really very . . . satisfying . . .

—: I like a story to have three . . . three key elements . . .

—: (sotto voce) Death, decay, destruction — (others laugh)

—: — a start, and a finish, and —

DIRK: Hey, I didn't ask to be Storyteller. If you guys have any complaints —

—: (under) I think that a story's content should be mirrored by its form . . .

STEVE: There's something wrong thematically with your stories, Dirk. You're not focusing.

DIRK: Okay, so . . .

STEVE: At the center of all great stories is Man's quest for human truth. Let me tell a story; I'll show you what I mean.
